If you come to Hawaii, you’ll probably want to see a waterfall at least once—and Manoa Falls is the perfect choice. It gives you a taste of adventure without requiring a “crazy” mountain climb.

Why Manoa Falls Trail is Famous:

  • Short & Sweet: Only 1.6 miles round trip (about 2.5 km).
  • Easy to Hike: Low difficulty, suitable for most people.
  • Close to Waikīkī: And the reward at the end is a majestic 150-foot waterfall!

What Makes It Special:

  • Unlike many short trails on Oʻahu that are dry, exposed, or coastal, this path leads you through a lush rainforest.
  • I’d call it an “easy hike,” but still enough to get your heart pumping a little.
  • The incline is gentle, but the humid air makes it feel slightly more challenging.

Terrain & Things to Know:

  • The trail is unpaved, with rocks and loose gravel. Since it’s in a rainforest, it’s often wet and can be slippery.
  • Mosquitoes are common, especially near the beginning. While I wasn’t bitten much, they were buzzing around me.
  • Good news: there’s a gift shop at the trailhead selling bug spray—worth buying before you start!

Fees & Services:

  • The trail itself is free, but parking at the lot costs $7.
  • You can also park in the neighborhood below for free, but expect an extra 10-minute uphill walk.
  • At the trailhead, there’s a visitor center with clean restrooms and a small souvenir shop.
